Creative Resilience – How to Use Creativity to Develop Cities on the Rise

World Creativity Forum, Aarhus, Danmark, 1 November 2017

An invited keynote for the World Creativity Forum 2017 was given by Rachel Armstrong, which introduced the concept of ‘living bricks’. This was followed by a workshop held by Rachel Armstrong and Rolf Hughes for a participant group of 25 designers, architects and creatives, who used recycled materials to generate a ‘living wall’. The workshop discussed “disobedient matter” helped participants see the transformative potential of unlikely materials (interrogating theories of ‘new materialism’ in design contexts) and also compiled a suspended wall, against which they composed and performed the story of their own ‘living brick’.
